Building a new rocket stove mass heater in summer?

It is 30+ degrees Celsius and I am designing a new mass for my rocket heater?

It actually gets worse, there is a heatwave here, temps might rise to 40 C or more, so why am I thinking stoves and masses?

Well, at Gamera we are always working at developments and keep on testing, and I am not pleased with old stove and mass.

Even well before I teamed up with Gamera, I designed and made a lot off rocket stoves and rocket mass heaters. Some I made just for fun or to test, not for a long life but just to test and prove ideas. Sure I build and designed rocket stove mass heaters for others too, and as far as I know they still do their jobs as they should.

Three years ago I wanted to make a “proof of concept” with mass, re-using all the parts of a tile stove (aka Kachelofen, Kaljeva peć, DDR stove) to see if that material that often is thrown away can be repurposed. So I build a Batchbox rocketstove in the skin of a tile stove, and it works. The costs were next to nothing other than the burner parts, the looks, well that is a matter of taste right?

that are often thrown away these days.

Tile stove rocket mass heater.

I just wanted to prove that you can recycle the parts of an old stove, and make it a great rocket for little money.

But now it has been here 3 years, and that was not my idea of a test.
The wood-stove is great, crazy economic, it outperforms my previous rocket stove by a bit too far. I can never put in a full load of wood, and that annoys me.
So I could use a smaller burner with less output, and a different mass that looks better.

But why now? There is a heatwave, go swimming or fishing in a nice stream, get away from the computer designing a stove !
Well, no, now is the time to do it. I want my stove and mass ready well before winter, so the masonry will be good and dry well before winter starts creeping in.

What stove will I use this time, will it be a Tiny 3 or a Lite 3?

Well?

You might already have guessed, I am going to use a prototype we are working on, to get me through winter. Isn’t that a risk, if it is a proto?
Naah, it will be good, I am sure. I just want our prototype to be tested is situ to give it a real shake down, so we can offer our new type with a rock hard guarantees.

And no, I will not show our prototype right now, it will be a surprise for later on.
A teaser, well maybe yes as it is exciting for us to launch a new stove.
But we will better get it right, before we launch it.

Cheers Bart
